Collection: Conversation Hearts

Many of us have had to get creative with how exactly to “let people down easy”.

I remember being 15 or 16 years old and working my first real job in a restaurant. My biggest concern was figuring out how to input orders, count change, and talk to people. It didn’t take long to realize that, more importantly, I needed to learn ways of dodging comments from people who were being entirely inappropriate.

Back then, I was SO worried that I would come across as rude that I didn’t know what to say at all. As an adult, things are different. I wish I could give my younger self the vocabulary needed for those types of situations, so she wouldn’t be scared while navigating the awkwardness.

These paintings are meant to be fun and silly on the surface. I hope they make you laugh! Beyond the fun pastel aesthetic, I enjoy creating them because it‘s cathartic to make pieces that scream out the sentiments I felt back then. Am I this blunt in my day-to-day life? Rarely. But practicing still makes me feel better.
